Refurbished Leeds workspace showcases student artwork

The Leeming Building

BA (Hons) Fine Art and BA (Hons) Visual Communication students have created new artworks for the recently refurbished Leeming Building, a design-led workspace for creative and tech businesses.

The Leeming Building is a Grade I listed building situated by Leeds City Market. The brief, commissioned by WSB Property Consultants, asked students at Leeds Arts University to produce artworks for the breakout spaces and common areas within the building with a focus on the history and recent developments of City Markets and the surrounding area.
Benjamin Campbell, a final year BA (Hons) Fine Art student created a series of work titled Method of Loci, which aims to take the viewer on a journey echoing some of the pivotal moments in the development and evolution of the Leeming Building.

Elise Clement, a recent BA (Hons) Visual Communication graduate has created a body of work inspired by the colours and bold shapes of the stalls within Leeds Market.

Alex Jowett, Senior Surveyor, WSB Property Consultants said:
“We are delighted with the pieces of artwork created by students of Leeds Arts University, which capture the history of the building perfectly and bring real character into the communal breakout spaces. We chose to commission works from students to support and celebrate local talent in the city.
The pieces we chose we thought best represented the history of the building. We would certainly look to work with the University again for future projects’.”
